Gas prices recently hit $5 per gallon. Food got more expensive. Also, the cost of real estate skyrocketed to all-time highs in many cities around the United States.

Those events inspired me to reduce my monthly expenses by approximately 42%.

Here’s how I did it:

I Collect My Own Drinking Water

I don’t want to pay $0.00125 per gallon from the tap. So, I informed my utility company a few weeks ago that I would no longer require water in my downtown apartment.

I currently walk several miles to the nearest river at 5 o’clock each morning. Then, I grab a large bucket, fill it up, and walk back home through the busy streets of New York City.

Sure, some people might call me a cheapskate or extremely frugal. But I don’t care. The only thing that matters is saving money during high periods of inflation.

I Stopped Paying For Health Insurance

“But what if you get a large medical bill?” That’s a common question people ask when they discover I don’t have health insurance anymore.
