I grew up in the UK. We have a fairly good approach to policing in rural areas. Like you said, the police are very community oriented. They don’t have lethal weapons. Unless of course, they’re guarding a public area that may be a target for violent crime or terrorism. Eg. Airports and the Houses of Parliament in London.

Police here are fairly easy to trust, as incidents of unprovoked police brutality are very very rare.

I’m not an American citizen. I can’t speak for what would be good for the USA. But perhaps if some states were to follow a similar community approach (like the UK, and other countries), incidents of violence would drastically decrease.
