Why We Should Tell People “I Love You” More Often

Those three words can quickly strengthen your relationships.

Thousands of years ago, the Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, wrote a beautiful quote that’s stayed in the back of my mind for a long time. It goes like this:

“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”

Marcus was in charge of one of the most prominent empires in human history. Yet, he wrote lovingly of the people around him. He treasured their presence, kindness and enjoyed every moment spent with the people he cared about. He practiced what he preached and showed genuine gratitude for his loved ones.

This chaotic year has put everything into perspective. It’s made us realize that our loved ones may not be around forever and that we should never take them for granted.

Today could be our last day on earth. It could be their last day. The truth is that we don’t know how long we each have left to experience this beautiful thing called life. The future is uncertain.
