You’re Going To Die, And You Have No Idea When

So you might as well live in the moment, while you still can.

“You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.” That quote from the Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, completely changed my perspective on death.

Someday, you and everyone you love is going to die. Although it might be an unsettling thought, it’s inevitable. That is unless you have a secret immortality pill that I don’t know about.

The universe existed for billions of years before your birth. And chances are, it will continue to exist for billions more after your death. In the grand scheme of things, your life is nothing more than a momentary blip on the timeline of existence.

The stoics coined the phrase, Memento Mori. In essence, it’s the practice of remembering that you will eventually die. Life is incredibly short. So in-between this moment and your eventual death, it’s certainly a good idea to enjoy every single second that you can.

Sure, you can ignore the inevitability of death and walk around as if you’re going to live forever. But what good will that serve? Chances are, it’ll drag you down into a perpetual state of complacency since you’re not in a rush to do anything right now. You blindly accept your state, leaving no…
